Update: 2 hurt in U.S. 224 crash

BENTON RIDGE — Two people were injured today in a traffic accident at the intersection of Ohio 235 and U.S. 224 in Blanchard Township, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Luzmary Steiner, 53, of Jenera, and Annis F. Lepper, 67, of Van Wert, were taken by Hanco Ambulance to Blanchard Valley Hospital.

Steiner was driving south on Ohio 235 at 2:28 p.m. and failed to stop at the intersection with U.S. 224, the sheriff’s office said. Her Jeep was hit by Lepper’s van in the intersection, the sheriff’s office said. Lepper had been traveling west on U.S. 224.

The collision sent both vehicles off the southwest corner of the intersection and into a field.

Lepper had to be extricated from the van, the sheriff’s office said.

The crash remains under investigation.
