Upgrades approved at site of fatal Henry County car-train crash

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio today approved the construction of improvements at a railroad crossing on Henry County E near Deshler that was the site of a fatal car-train crash in 2013.

Rebecca McCoy-Basore, 48, of Hamilton, Ohio, was killed on Feb. 17 when she failed to yield at the crossing for a northbound CSX train.

The railroad crossing, located just to the north of Deshler, will be upgraded with mast-mounted flashing lights and roadway gates by Oct. 22.

Funding for the upgrade will be provided by federal funds. Additional improvements to the crossing will be funded by the State Grade Crossing Safety Fund.
