TONTOGANY — A CSX train derailed Monday night in the Wood County village of Tontogany, and 18 cars were off the track, officials reported.
The derailed cars were carrying scrap metal and no hazardous materials, according to Bill Gase, assistant chief of the Washington Township Fire Department in Tontogany.
No injuries were reported.
The CSX train, with 60 cars, was traveling north through the village about 9:40 p.m. when 18 cars derailed at Main Street, Gase said.
Two buildings sustained minor damage from the derailment: the Washington Township fire station and the township maintenance department.
Main Street in the village is closed by the derailment, officials said. The cause of the derailment is being investigated.
