Fire damages Hancock County home

An early-morning fire significantly damaged a Washington Township home.

The fire struck 8606 Washington Township 242 at about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, said Washington Township Fire Department Chief Tom Moses.

It spread to the chimney, attic, bedroom and living room, Moses said.

“It pretty much destroyed (the living) room,” he said.

No one was injured in the fire, but it left an estimated $200,000 in damages. The cause is still being investigated, Moses said.

Homeowner Robert Ruehle is insured, he said.

Vanlue firefighters also assisted. Firefighters contained the fire within about 25 minutes and cleared the scene at 5:48 a.m., Moses said.
