The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says it will have extra deputies on patrol during upcoming weekends, as prom activities are held at area high schools.
The goal of the extra patrols will be to reduce traffic crashes, prevent underage alcohol consumption and drug abuse, “and other issues that occasionally occur with teenagers celebrating during their high school prom.”
These proms are scheduled: Saturday, Arlington and McComb; May 3, Arcadia; May 10, Liberty-Benton, Van Buren, Vanlue and Findlay; May 17, Cory-Rawson and Riverdale.
The sheriff’s office encouraged teenagers to be “safe and sober” during prom season, by buckling up, slowing down, and “saying no” to alcohol and drugs.
