Demolition of the former Elks building at 601 S. Main St., may begin this evening after 6 p.m., Marathon Petroleum Corp. reported.
Marathon had earlier said that demolition work would begin on Saturday.
The former RCM Architects building, next door to the south, will be razed in 2015. Both buildings will be replaced by trees, green spaces and employee gathering areas.
The changes are part of Marathon Petroleum’s plans to add $80 million worth of downtown buildings — two office buildings, two parking garages, and possibly a hotel.
