Custar man dies in crash near Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN — A Custar man was killed Friday night when his pickup truck collided with a tractor-trailer near Bowling Green.
Jared Zernhel, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office reported early today. A female passenger in the pickup, whose name was not released, was taken to Wood County Hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
The crash occurred about 10:19 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Sand Ridge Road, southwest of Bowling Green.
Zernhel was driving the pickup south on Sand Ridge Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the U.S. 6 intersection, the sheriff’s office said. The pickup was hit by a tractor-trailer that was westbound on U.S. 6.
The tractor-trailer driver was not hurt, the sheriff’s office said.
Fire and emergency medical services responding to the crash were Mid County 120, Central Joint Fire and the Bowling Green Fire Department.
