Ex-Ottawa mayor Maag arrested for solicitation again

LIMA — Ottawa’s former mayor was arrested Friday on his second charge of soliciting a prostitute.

Kenneth A. Maag, 64, was cited in a sting operation at about 9:45 a.m. inside a Lima residence, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.

It was not clear how Maag first contacted the woman and discussed having sex, said Sheriff Samuel Crish.

“They had some conversations prior to our involvement,” Crish said.

Maag said little as Crish arrested him, Crish said.

“He just kind of dropped his head and started sweating really bad,” Crish said.

Friday’s arrest followed similar events that spurred Maag’s September 2011 resignation from office.

On Aug. 29 of that year, Crish arrested Maag inside a Lima Econo Lodge motel. Crish charged him with a misdemeanor offense of soliciting.

Courier reporter Ryan Dunn will have more in tomorrow’s newspaper.
