Power restored to Tiffin after bird’s nest causes fire

A bird’s nest at an AEP Ohio substation caught fire this morning, temporarily knocking out power to half of Tiffin.

The fire burned a cable and triggered an automatic safety switch, causing the outage at the substation, located at Ohio 101 and Seneca County 15, northeast of Tiffin.

AEP Ohio’s website reported that 4,400 customers in Tiffin were affected by the outage, and Tiffin police said that power had been restored by 11:30 a.m.
