An estimated $1 million upgrade to Dorney Plaza to improve security for nearby courts and modernize the area was outlined during the Hancock County Commissioners meeting Tuesday. Construction is planned during 2017.

Garry Peiffer, trustee and treasurer of the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation, announced a $200,000 donation from the foundation. The plaza will be 30 years old next year, while The Community Foundation will celebrate 25 years. Former Findlay resident the late L. Dale Dorney’s bequest began the foundation.

The county and Findlay are expected to split the remainder of the expense.

Trees, fence, lighting and new pavement material are planned for the area.

Construction is expected to be done  by Oct. 1.

A presentation before Findlay City Council was planned for Tuesday night.
