The National Council for Home Safety and Security has released a list of Ohio’s 50 Safest Cities and Townships, and two local cities are on the list: Ada and Fostoria.
According to WFIN, the council listed Ada as the 16th safest city in Ohio, while Fostoria was 30th on the list.
The list comes from a review of the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics. They also look at population data and internal research. Only cities and townships with populations over 5,000 qualify to make the list.
The remaining cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes.
Russell Township in Geauga County was ranked first by the council, and many of the top 10 locations were in northeastern Ohio. The only nearby city in the top 10 was Bellevue, which ranked 5th. Sylvania Township in Lucas County was also ranked at 24th on the list.
