Legends eatery changing, expanding under new owners

Legends restaurant downtown has new owners who will be changing the menu and expanding into the former Fenstermaker’s building next door.

“There’s a great opportunity here,” said Joe Klein, managing partner of Legends, which was recently purchased by Klein and others. Klein left his job as director of clubhouse operations at Findlay Country Club in September for the new venture.

Last month, he and his partners bought the former Fenstermaker building to the south to make use of the city-owned patio, “Millstream Art Plaza,” at the corner of Main and Sandusky streets.

Look for the wall facing the patio to get a more open look over the next few months.

“We’re going to … make this corner building feel a little bit more like a casual lounge space,” Klein said. “It’s going to have the ability to host some good live entertainment.”

The new space, about 2,800 square feet, will be part of Legends.

“It’s going to be a little more of a lounge space. Ultimately, we’ll bill it as that,” he said. “But it still wants to be a little bit of a banquet space as well. Good event space. It’s going to have a little more of a higher-end feel to it.”

Legends will be drawing rehearsal dinners, and “VIP business dinners,” Klein said.

Renovations already are underway inside the newly purchased space.

The existing Legends space will undergo cosmetic changes by year-end. The menu will be pared down a bit, Klein said.

Klein and his fellow investors are ready to hire an “executive chef” with “extensive big-city experience,” he said. “Really address the menu, focus totally on quality and consistency.”
