Great Lakes Demolition, Vickery, was awarded the contract for the Dalzell Ditch improvement project on Tuesday by the Hancock County commissioners.
Bids for the long-discussed maintenance project were opened Nov. 9. The company bid $455,612. The only other bid, from Helms and Sons Excavating, Findlay, was about $492,957.
Work is expected to begin this fall.
The project cost was estimated at $584,000. The project will be paid for in the following manner: property owners, 82 percent of the cost; the state, 1 percent; Findlay, 13 percent; and Liberty Township, 4 percent.
The project has been discussed for about 21 years. Dalzell Ditch, which runs through residential neighborhoods in northwestern Findlay, has been a source of flooding problems in the area. Maintenance of the ditch has been discussed several times.
