Friday fire damages Super 8 Motel

A Friday evening fire spread to and burned the outside of Super 8 Motel, 1951 Broad Ave., the Findlay Fire Department reported.

Crews responded to a report of a mattress on fire outside the building at 5:49 p.m. When they arrived, they discovered it was actually multiple pallets of remodeling supplies that were burning. The pallets were stored under an overhang of the motel, and winds caused the fire to spread to the wall of the building.

The crew of one fire truck was able to bring the fire under control within 14 minutes, the fire department said.

Damage was estimated at $15,000 for the remodeling supplies and $3,000 for the motel, the fire department said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
