Hancock County jobless rate climbs in December

Hancock County’s unemployment rate increased to 3.4 percent in December from 3.1 percent in November.

Jobless rates increased in 87 of Ohio’s 88 counties last month, the State Job and Family Services Department reported.

Hancock County’s unemployment rate was tied with Madison County for fifth lowest rate in the state.

Jobless rates in neighboring counties in December, with November rates in parentheses, were: Allen County, 4.5 percent (4.2 percent); Hardin, 4.4 (4.1); Henry, 5.1 (3.8); Putnam, 3.5 (3); Seneca, 4.6 (3.9); Wood, 3.8 (3.6); Wyandot, 3.5 (3.1).

The statewide unemployment rate, which is seasonally adjusted, declined to 4.7 percent in December, from 4.8 percent a month earlier.
