Blanchard Valley Hospital has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by IBM Watson Health for the sixth time.
This is the fourth year in a row the hospital has received the distinction, which it also received in 2005 and 2011.
Formerly known as the Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals, this study spotlights the top-performing hospitals in the United States based on a balanced scorecard of publicly available clinical, operational and patient satisfaction metrics and data.
Among the factors measured were better survival rates, fewer complications and infections, shorter length of stay, higher patient satisfaction and lower admission rates.
“Being named a 100 Top Hospital for the sixth time is a result of system-wide teamwork,” said Scott Malaney, president and CEO of Blanchard Valley Health System. “This recognition affirms efforts to ensure our patients receive the right care, in the right place at the right time.”
The study analyzes hospital and health system performance in 11 areas addressing: inpatient mortality; 30-day mortality rate; complications; core measures; 30-day risk-adjusted readmission rate; severity-adjusted average length of stay; mean emergency room throughput; inpatient expense per discharge; Medicare spend per beneficiary; adjusted operating profit margin and Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems score (patient rating of overall hospital performance). The study has been conducted annually since 1993.
