Hancock County jobless rate tied for third lowest

Hancock County’s unemployment rate rose slightly in January but still was low enough to tie with Auglaize County for third lowest in Ohio.

Hancock County’s rate climbed to 3.5 percent in January from 3.4 percent in December, the State Job and Family Services Department reported.

Unemployment rates rose in every county but one. Van Wert County’s rate was 3.8 percent in January and December.

Jobless rates in neighboring counties in January, with December rates in parentheses, were: Allen County, 4.8 percent (4.5 percent); Hardin, 5 (4.4); Henry, 6.5 (5.1); Putnam, 4 (3.5); Seneca, 5.1 (4.6); Wood, 4.3 (3.8); Wyandot, 3.7 (3.5).

The statewide unemployment rate, which unlike the county rates is seasonally adjusted, declined to 4.7 percent in January from 4.9 percent in December.
