Juvenile hurt in van-bicycle collision

A 12-year-old bicyclist was injured Friday when the bicycle was hit by a van at the intersection of Blanchard and East Main Cross streets in Findlay, the Hancock County Sheriffs Office reported.

The juvenile, who was not identified by the sheriffs office, was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital by Hanco Ambulance after the 5:47 p.m. collision.

The sheriffs office said the bicyclist was riding south on the Blanchard Street sidewalk, while Karen Ouwenga, 43, of Findlay, was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna van west on East Main Cross.

The juvenile began crossing East Main Cross on the crosswalk, with the no crossing sign posted, the sheriffs office said. Ouwenga tried to make a right turn onto Blanchard Street and hit the bicycle, the sheriffs office said.

Findlay Fire Department assisted at the accident scene.
