A pancake breakfast and 5K walk/run will be held Saturday to bring awareness to veteran suicide.
Every day, 22 American veterans take their own lives because of post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. “Save 22” is a program the AMVETS Department of Ohio has started to help veterans and local military members who may be in crisis. The program will put them in contact with other veterans who have dealt with the same issues and also provide them with camaraderie they may be missing since leaving the military.
“After learning of this tragedy, I felt the need to bring awareness to the community. And, with the support of the entire AMVETS Post 21, we hope to make a difference,” said junior AMVETS president Mayci Aldrich.
A pancake breakfast sponsored by the Sons of AMVETS will be served at the post home, 423 W. Trenton Ave., from 7 a.m. to noon. Cost is $6.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., with the walk/run starting at 9. Cost is $20 per person which includes a T-shirt, drinks and a swag bag. Proceeds from both the breakfast and walk/run will benefit the SAVE 22 program.
To register, check the pinned post on the Findlay AMVETS Facebook page and provide a shirt size, or call the AMVETS at 419-422-5190.
