Hope House for the Homeless will be assisting with a census Tuesday to record the number of homeless people in Hancock and surrounding counties.
The effort will account for those who are staying in emergency shelter, transitional housing or a hotel or motel paid for by a private or public entity; as well as those living in places not meant for human habitation, including streets, abandoned buildings and campgrounds.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires an annual count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless people for communities interested in participating in the McKinney-Vento funding through the Continuum of Care application process.
