Flag City Honor Flight, the Findlay-based hub of the national Honor Flight Network, has chosen June 3 for its fourth annual flight to Washington D.C.
Flag City Honor Flight flies veterans free of charge to view the monuments built in their honor. Flag City Honor Flight takes, in order, World War II veterans, then Korean War veterans, and any life-threatened Vietnam War veterans.
Veterans pay nothing and are accompanied on a one-to-one basis by an assigned guardian. Guardians are frequently close relatives of the veterans. Guardians make a donation to Honor Flight.
Flag City Honor Flight flies in June of each year out of the Grand Aire terminal at Toledo Express Airport. Veterans originate mostly from the nearby area but there is no residency requirement.
Anyone interested in assisting Flag City Honor Flight is encouraged to contact the organization. The local hub stages events for fundraising and community awareness. Volunteers are being assigned for set up, the send-off breakfast and the welcome home event. All ages are welcome.
Forms for veterans, guardians and volunteers can be downloaded at www.flagcityhonorflight.org.
