United Way of Hancock County is seeking teams of volunteers and service project requests for its 20th annual Days of Caring April 28 through May 2.
Each year, hundreds of volunteers from local companies and organizations form teams and complete projects for nonprofit agencies in Hancock County that have submitted a project request to United Way.
In 2013, 757 volunteers worked 3,028 hours, providing labor worth $67,040. The dollar figure is based on the most recent national volunteer hourly dollar value of $22.14 per hour.
United Way of Hancock County is looking for corporate and community volunteers to devote at least four hours out of one workday to complete a service project.
Past projects have included taking inventory of supplies, preparing agency mailings, landscaping, interior and exterior painting, cleaning and mulching trails for parks and nonprofit campgrounds, preparing community gardens for planting, cleaning vehicles and buses, washing windows, shredding documents, washing kennels and cleaning churches.
United Way Days of Caring is open to all local nonprofit organizations including schools and churches. The deadline for Days of Caring projects and team registration is April 10. The deadline for agency projects is April 18.
