Findlay First Edition, Findlay High School’s show choir, was named overall grand champion at the Bishop Luers Midwest Invitational Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind., finishing ahead of 17 choirs from Indiana.
This was Findlay’s 11th grand championship at the invitational, a competition record for the event, and the choir’s 80th grand championship in its 30-year history.
The Findlay choir also earned awards for overall best music performance, overall best choreography, class A champion and best technical crew. Sarah Pulcheon was the most dynamic performer and Sybil Anast was named the best overall female vocalist.
Findlay First Edition also won the first ever “Spirit of Luers” Award that is given to the choir that displays the most class, respect and professionalism throughout the day. The award is named in honor of the Rev. Fred Link, the founder of the Bishop Luers competition.
The Findlay choir will next travel to Branson, Mo. March 27-30 to compete in the Fame Branson competition held at the Welk Resort Theatre. Fame Branson is a part of the National Show Choir Championship Series. The three highest scoring groups in Branson will qualify for the Show Choir National Championship which will be held in Chicago April 26. Choirs from around the country will compete in regional events held in New York, Chicago, Orlando, Branson and Hollywood for a chance to compete at the national finals.
