The Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program has been extended until April 15.
The program was created to provide financial assistance, one time per heating season, to income-eligible households that are threatened with disconnection of their heating source or have had their service already disconnected, or who need to establish new service, transfer service or have less than a 35 percent supply of bulk fuel.
To apply for the program, there must be a face-to-face appointment with an adult household member. The customer must bring the following documents: income documentation for all household members over the age of 18 for the last 90 days, a copy of each current utility bill for the main heating and electric utility source, proof of disability if disabled, Social Security numbers/birthdates for all household members and proof of citizenship.
Households must have an annual income that is at or below 175 percent of the 2013 federal poverty guidelines which are as follows: household of one, up to $20,107; two, $27,142; three, $34,177; four, $41,212; five, $48,247; six, $55,282. Households with more than six should add $7,035 for 12 months for each additional member.
