City Mission reports busy February

The City Mission reported an increase in intakes with the agency operating at full capacity and several men in overflow in February. There was also more turnover with some men staying only a few nights.
The mission provided 603 nights of lodging and served 1,699 meals in February, while 22 men and three women made the transition to their own housing.
The services of the Day Center were used by 40 residents and eight drop-in guests. The mission provided 267 lunches to Day Center guests, and seven individuals found work.
Representatives from the governor’s Faith-based and Community Initiative Group and the local Halt Hunger Initiative toured City Mission. Two staff members also visited the Akron Haven of Rest Mission for training and to network with other missions about their long-term programs.
Gleaners
The Findlay Flag City Gleaners Arbor will celebrate Arbor Day April 25 at Litzenberg Memorial Woods. Trees will be planted and other activities are planned. The event is open to the public.
Findlay Family YMCA
Richie Van Hoose, the Findlay Family YMCA’s sports/camp director, attended the National YMCA Day Camp Directors certification program in Cincinnati March 28 and 29.
The certification will aid Van Hoose in developing new programs for youth.
YMCA President and CEO Brent Finlay and Senior Director Stephanie Parsons both attended the Ohio YMCA’s state alliance conference in Columbus April 2 and 3. The conference addressed youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Hancock, Seneca and Wyandot Red Cross
Keith Loreno, chief of the Fostoria Fire Department, has been elected to the board of directors for the American Red Cross of Hancock, Seneca and Wyandot counties.
Loreno will serve a three-year term and will be eligible for a second term in 2016.
Fostoria Coin Club
Cody Roth, of Fostoria, and Phil Cole, Findlay, have been awarded life memberships for “exemplary service” to the Fostoria Coin Club.
The club recently held its 50th annual spring coin show which was attended by over 500 people. Winners of the gold and silver raffle were Chuck Brandeberry, John Conats, Lynn Coleman, Janice Hopkins and Rich McClellan, all of Fostoria; Roger Keefe, Arcadia; Mike Fiegelist, Tiffin; Bill Hinton, Findlay; Steve Livingston, Sylvania; and David Reho, Oak Harbor.
Next year’s show will be held March 29. The club holds meetings on the third Monday of every month at Hope Lutheran Church, Fostoria.
