EDITOR’S NOTE: Holy Week and Easter services planned at area churches are listed below, as submitted by the congregations. Holy Week begins April 13 with Palm Sunday. Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday, is April 17; Good Friday is April 18: Holy Saturday is April 19 and Easter, or Resurrection Sunday, is April 20.
ARLINGTON — Arlington United Methodist Church will hold a Maundy Thursday worship Service at 7 p.m. Holy Communion will be offered.
A Good Friday worship service will be offered at 7 p.m.
The church will also participate in Arlington’s community cross walk at noon on Good Friday with other churches.
On Easter, there will be a 7 a.m. sunrise service followed by a fellowship breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., served by the church youth as a fundraiser for Lakeside Camp. Worship services will also be held at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
Bethel Church of Christ
ADA — A Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. at Bethel Church of Christ, 4014 County Road 304, Ada.
On Easter, a worship service will be held at 8 a.m., followed by breakfast at 9:30 a.m., with a second worship service at 10:45 a.m.
ARLINGTON — The adult choir of Bible Fellowship Church will present an Easter musical, “Champion of Love,” at 6:30 p.m. Palm Sunday.
Brad Bell will be a soloist. Also featured will be the trio of Patty Woodard, Lee Ann Graydon and Deanna Bell. Narration will be presented by Pastor Jerry Kellogg. Holly Hunter is the piano accompanist and Nancy Glick the director. Assistants are Tim Graydon and Joe Rowan.
The program is free and open to the public. The church is located at the corner of U.S. 68 and Fellowship Drive on the north edge of Arlington.
Carey ecumenical choir
CAREY — The Carey ecumenical choir, Adoramus, will present its annual ecumenical music reflection at noon Good Friday in the basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, 315 Clay St., Carey.
Adoramus is directed by the basilica’s director of music, Jack Gerding, and accompanied by Joy Orians. This year’s program is based on the “Seven Last Words of Christ.”

College First Church of God
Palm Sunday services will be held at the College First Church of God, 1100 N. Main St., at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Worship at Winebrenner will be held at 10:15 a.m. at Winebrenner Theological Seminary, 950 N. Main St.
The Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7 p.m. at the church, with the ordinances of feet washing and communion observed. The worship choir will sing and Pastor William Reist will deliver the message.
A Good Friday Tenebrae service will be held at 7 p.m. at the church.
Child care will be available for infants and toddlers at the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services.
Easter services will be at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the church, and at 10:15 a.m. at Winebrenner. Reist will deliver the Easter message at the church services and Pastor Will Miller will preach at Winebrenner.
Enon Valley Presbyterian
Enon Valley Presbyterian Church will begin Holy Week with music by the choir during the 9:30 a.m. Palm Sunday worship service.
A Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. The choir will sing and communion will be served.
Enon Valley’s Easter service will be held at 8 a.m. and will feature music by the choir. An Easter breakfast will be served following the worship service.
The church is located at 20307 U.S. 224 East.
Faith Presbyterian Church, 700 E. Melrose Ave., will offer four events to mark Holy Week.
A seder meal will be served at 6 p.m. Maundy Thursday and will include Hebrew prayers. The meal is free, but an offering will be taken to offset food costs. Reservations are required in advance by 5 p.m. Tuesday by calling 419-425-2840 and leaving a message.
The Good Friday service will begin at 6 p.m. at the church. The congregation will then carry a cross to its property at 1935 Crystal Ave., where it will be displayed for the weekend. The service will end with a bonfire and fellowship.
The men of the church will prepare a Resurrection Day pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The meal is free but an offering will be taken to offset expenses. A worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m. and will include presentations and children’s church.
Findlay community Good Friday service and cross walk
The congregations of Howard, St. Andrew’s and St. Marks United Methodist churches, Unity Christian Ministries and First Presbyterian Church will host Findlay’s community cross walk on Good Friday.
A service will begin at noon at Howard United Methodist Church, 220 Cherry St., followed by the cross walk. The route will take walkers south from the church, to Front Street, west to South Cory Street, then north to the Hancock County War Memorial on North Main Street. The walk will conclude at Howard United Methodist Church.
Findlay Evangelical Free
Findlay Evangelical Free Church, 2515 Heatherwood Drive, will hold a 6 p.m. service on Good Friday. The service will include communion.
Easter services will be offered at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. All will include music by a praise choir. Child care will be provided during the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.
First Baptist Church, 1635 Fostoria Ave., will hold an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m., with the Rev. David Clark bringing the message.
An Easter breakfast will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m. with a worship service at 10:30 a.m., featuring the Rev. Randy Carroll.
Holy Week begins at First Christian Church, 620 N. Main St., on Palm Sunday with the children waving palm branches as they form a procession into the sanctuary.
The Maundy Thursday service of Tenebrae and communion will begin at 7 p.m.
The Good Friday prayer vigil will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the sanctuary/side chapel.
An Easter breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m. with a children’s egg hunt to follow. The Easter worship will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will include decorating a flower cross, followed by the pastor’s message.
First Lutheran Church, 109 E. Lincoln St., will hold prayer services, led by Pastor Paul DeMoss, at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
On Maundy Thursday, a play will be presented by members of the congregation depicting the Last Supper at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
On Good Friday, the senior choir, directed by Jane Eakin and accompanied by Miriam Gibson, will offer a Tenebrae service, featuring the voices of Eakin, Silverlyn Roth and Kurt Ebersole, with narration by Pastor Bob Cochran. The candlelight service will begin at 7:30 p.m. and end in darkness and silence.
A Celebration of Christ’s Resurrection will be held Easter with festival services at 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., featuring the senior choir and the Adler Brass.
First Presbyterian Church, 2330 S. Main St., will host a community dinner from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Palm Sunday in the church’s great room.
The menu will include chicken, vegetables, Betty’s Salad and apple crisp. The dinner is free and open to the public.
A trailer from Litter Landing will be available in the lower lot to collect recyclable items.
Also on Sunday, the Thrive youth group will meet at 6 p.m. in the great room.
Kids in Christ, for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
A Maundy Thursday dinner and worship will be held in the fellowship hall at 6 p.m.
A shadow drama will be presented at 8:30 p.m. Good Friday in the sanctuary.
The church will host a Family Easter Adventure from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 19. It will include face painting, games and candy.
On Easter, a sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m., a traditional festival service at 9:30 a.m., both in the sanctuary, and a celebration service at 11:40 a.m. in the great room.
First Presbyterian, Fostoria
FOSTORIA — First Presbyterian Church, 201 W. Fremont St., Fostoria, will offer Palm Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m.
A Mediterranean buffet will be served at 6 p.m. Maundy Thursday. Worship will follow. Anyone planning to attend should call the church office by Tuesday at 419-435-1884 to make a reservation.
A service of shadow and darkness will be held at 7 p.m. Good Friday.
The deacons will serve an Easter breakfast from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Worship is at 10:30 a.m. Child care will be provided during worship.
First United Church of Christ
The cantata, “The Cross,” will be presented by the First United Church of Christ choir during the 10 a.m. worship service on Palm Sunday. Sunday school will be held at 9 a.m.
On Maundy Thursday, the traditional soup supper will be held at 5:30 p.m. Worship is at 6:30 p.m. Pastor William Smith will preach and communion will be served.
On Easter, a breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. and worship will be at 10 a.m. with a message by Smith and a choir presentation titled “Easter Medley.”

Good Hope Lutheran
ARLINGTON — Good Hope Lutheran Church, 300 S. Main St., Arlington, will begin Holy Week celebrations with the procession of palms at the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday. The procession will be led by the Sunday school choir which will join with the senior choir. A dramatic reading will be presented at the 7:45 a.m. and 10 a.m. services and Holy Communion will be offered.
The Maundy Thursday service will be at 7 p.m. and will include communion. The senior choir will sing. The service will end with the stripping of the altar and the congregation exiting in silence.
On Good Friday, a cross walk will begin at noon at Good Hope and will process through Arlington, returning to Good Hope. A worship service will be held at 7 p.m. and will begin in silence and end in darkness. The senior choir will present an anthem.
No services will be held on Holy Saturday.
On Easter, the “sonrise” service will begin at 6:30 a.m. in the great room, processing behind the Christ candle into the sanctuary. Following the worship service the youth of the congregation will serve their annual Easter breakfast. Sunday school will be held at 9 a.m. The Easter Resurrection service will be held at 10 a.m. with music by the senior choir. Communion will be offered at both services.
Pastor Steven Ramsey will lead all worship services. The senior choir is under the direction of Dan Basinger with accompanists LouAnn Cousino and Mark Willeke.
Grace United Church of Christ, Fostoria
FOSTORIA — Grace United Church of Christ, 4481 U.S. 23, Fostoria, will hold a Palm Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. with everyone participating in a procession of the palms.
A Maundy Thursday service with a love feast/Lord’s Supper will begin at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
On Good Friday, the church will be open to the community from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Scripture reading, contemplation and prayer.
On Easter, Resurrection Sunday, a continental breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall. There will also be an egg hunt for children. A worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m. and will feature music by Bill Daunhauer.
Holy Week will start with a 6 p.m. Maundy Thursday service at Howard United Methodist Church, 220 Cherry St.
On Good Friday, Howard will host the community Good Friday Service at noon, followed by a cross walk that will begin and end at Howard United Methodist.
Easter services will be at 7 a.m. for the sunrise service, followed by breakfast, The Easter service will be at 9 a.m.
Hoytville UM, St. James UM
HOYTVILLE — The Hoytville and St. James United Methodist churches will hold a combined Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. at the Hoytville church. The Chimettes will perform, as well as youth from both churches.
Breakfast will follow at the HYCO building.
A Sunday school service will be held at 9 a.m. Easter at the Hoytville church, followed by worship at 9:45 a.m. The choir will perform a mini-cantata.
Holy Week services at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2300 Northridge Road, will include a 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday service and a 7 p.m. Good Friday service.
Easter worship will be held at 7 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., with breakfast in between.
McCOMB — A Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7 p.m. at the McComb Presbyterian Church, 100 S. Church St., McComb.
The church will host McComb’s community Good Friday service at 7 p.m.
On Easter, breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. A Resurrection celebration will be held at 10 a.m.
McCOMB — McComb United Methodist Church will hold a Holy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Communion will be served.
The congregation will participate in the McComb community Good Friday service at 7 p.m. at McComb Presbyterian Church.
Church youth will lead a 7 a.m. Easter sunrise service, with breakfast, hosted by the Friendly Followers Sunday school class, immediately following. Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. worship service will feature children singing with the choir and baptism.
Mount Blanchard UM
MOUNT BLANCHARD — Mount Blanchard United Methodist Church will celebrate Palm Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with a palm processional by the children. Music will be provided by the chancel choir, the singing group Bridge of Grace, the praise band Broken Ground and other musicians from the church.
Also on Palm Sunday, the congregation’s Nurture and Outreach committee will sponsor a taco luncheon immediately after the worship service to raise money for the community carnival in June.
A Maundy Thursday service will be held from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will include a prayer walk, “Following the Footsteps of Jesus.” Holy Communion will also be included.
The congregation will sponsor an Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. April 19 at Mount Blanchard Island Park.
An Easter sunrise service, with music by Broken Ground, will be held at 7:30 a.m., followed by breakfast provided by the Missions Ministry Team. A worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m.
New Hope Community
New Hope Community Church will begin Holy Week with a Palm Sunday service at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday April 13th.
A modified version of the stations of the cross, similar to the Roman Catholic tradition, will be offered at 6 p.m. Good Friday
An Easter service will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. A potluck dinner will be held afterward.
New Hope Community Church is a non-denominational Christian congregation that meets at 2415 N. Main St. Services are casual, contemporary and Christian-based and are held at 4:30 p.m. every Sunday.

Our Lady of Consolation Roman Catholic
CAREY — Palms will be blessed and distributed at Masses this weekend at Our Lady of Consolation, Carey. Masses are scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday. The 11 a.m. Mass will begin with a procession and palms will be blessed across the street from the basilica.
Masses will be offered at 7 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the lower basilica and at 11 a.m. in the upper basilica. The sacrament of reconciliation will be offered in the lower basilica from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. At 7 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. John Stowe will give a talk titled “Liturgies of the Sacred Triduum” in the lower basilica.
Mass will be offered at 7 p.m. Holy Thursday. It will include the washing of feet, the collection of Lenten rice bowls and canned food offerings for the needy, and will conclude with a procession to the lower basilica where adoration will take place until midnight.
Prayer will begin at 8 a.m. Good Friday. At noon there will be a musical reflection. At 3 p.m. the stations of the cross will be prayed in the Shrine Park (or in the lower basilica if the weather is bad). The Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion will be celebrated at 7 p.m.
Prayer will be held at 8 a.m. Holy Saturday. The Easter vigil Mass will begin outside the basilica at 9 p.m.
Easter Masses will be offered at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon.

PANDORA — The Pandora United Methodist Church choir will present its Easter cantata, “Wondrous Love,” during the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday.

McCOMB — Portage Chapel United Methodist Church will hold a sunrise service at 7 a.m. Easter, featuring traditional hymns and readings by the church youth. The service will be followed by an all-church breakfast.
Easter worship service will begin at 9:15 a.m. and include an anthem by the sanctuary choir.
Portage Chapel is located at Township Road 135 and County Road 203, between McComb, Van Buren and North Baltimore.
Redeemer Lutheran Church will hold a Maundy Thursday service, with communion, at 7 p.m. in the Birchaven chapel.
The Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. at the church, 303 Osborn Ave.
On Easter, breakfast will be served at the church at 9 a.m., followed by an Easter celebration of Resurrection at 10:30 a.m.
St. Andrew’s UM
St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 120 W. Sandusky St., will offer Palm Sunday services at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. A New Life Korean worship service will be held at 2 p.m.
Holy Thursday services will be held at noon and 7 p.m.
The congregation will participate in the community Good Friday service at noon at Howard United Methodist Church. A cross walk through the community will follow at 12:45 p.m.
Easter services will be held at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., with New Life Korean worship at 2 p.m.
St. John’s Lutheran
The 9:30 a.m. Palm Sunday service at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1701 Tiffin Ave., will include a procession with palms, beginning at the fellowship hall.
At noon Wednesday, the Rev. Christian Dittmar will give a presentation on Israel at a potluck lunch.
A Maundy Thursday worship service will be held at 7 p.m.
On Good Friday, meditation, prayer and reflection stations will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. A worship service will be held at 7 p.m.
On Easter, a worship service will be offered at 9:30 a.m., with breakfast at 10:30 a.m.
St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran
JENERA — Palm Sunday will be celebrated with palm branches distributed to all at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9340 Township Road 32, Jenera. The adult handbell choir will play at all worship services at 7:50 a.m., 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Holy Communion will be observed.
An Easter egg hunt for children who are toddlers through grade five will be held at 2 p.m. today. The hunt will be held rain or shine, inside or outside, and will conclude with cookies and punch in the fellowship hall.
Maundy Thursday will be observed with worship at 7 p.m., including Holy Communion.
Good Friday services will be held at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Easter will be celebrated at 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. A breakfast and program will be held at 8:45 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share; paper products and drinks will be provided. Members and guests are encouraged to come forward for the singing of Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” during the 10 a.m. service.
St. Wendelin Roman Catholic
FOSTORIA — St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, will host “Messiah in the Passover,” a Passover demonstration, Tuesday in the parish hall.
A dinner of soup and bread will be served at 5:30 p.m. The demonstration will begin at 6 p.m.
The parish choir will perform a Tenebrae service, “Song of the Shadows,” at 7 p.m. in the church.
“Messiah in the Passover” will be conducted by Michael Hertz of Chosen People Ministries, which was founded in 1894 by a Hungarian rabbi who came to believe that Jesus is the messiah promised by Hebrew scriptures.
The presentation provides insight into Jewish traditions so that the Jewish roots of Christianity can be better understood and so that the Jewish and Christian communities can understand their common heritage.
A freewill offering will be accepted.
The Trinity Baptist Church drama team will perform a 20-minute musical drama, “It is Finished,” at noon April 19 at the On Common Ground sand sculpture display at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. The performance will be repeated at 1:45 p.m. There is no admission charge.
On Easter, Trinity Baptist will hold a sunrise service at 8 a.m. in the church’s newly remodeled sanctuary. Breakfast will be served in the Family Center at 8:30 a.m. A worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m., offering a free concert with the award-winning Southern gospel quartet, Soul’d Out. The drama team will again perform “It is Finished” after the concert.

Pastor Michael Spann will be the guest speaker at the 6:30 a.m. community Easter sunrise service at the sand sculpture display at the fairgrounds.
A combined service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Palm Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 128 E. Hardin St. The service will include the Liturgy of Palms and the installation of the interim pastor.
On Maundy Thursday, an Agape meal will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a service at 7 p.m.
On Good Friday, Holy Eucharist services will be offered at noon and 7 p.m.
The Great Vigil of Easter will be held at 7 p.m. Holy Saturday.
A combined service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Easter. The service will include Holy Eucharist and a children’s processional. An Easter brunch will be served and there will be an egg hunt for children.
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran, Arcadia
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 18974 Ohio 12, Arcadia, will start Holy Week with a worship service at 9:30 a.m. Palm Sunday. Palms will be distributed, as will Holy Communion.
Maundy Thursday worship will be at 7:30 p.m. with Holy Communion.
The Good Friday service will be at 7:30 p.m.
There will be two services on Easter, a sunrise service at 7 a.m. with Holy Communion. Breakfast will follow at 8 a.m. A second service will be held at 10 a.m. and will also include communion.
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran, Jenera
JENERA — Palm Sunday services at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 N. Main St., Jenera, will be held at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday school and Bible classes for all ages will be held at 9:20 a.m. Pastor Jeff Bolwerk will preach. The students of Trinity Lutheran School and the adult choir will sing. The church will be decorated with palms and each worshiper will receive a single palm leaf strand with instruction on how to fold it into a cross.
The Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m. Pastor Al Schmitzer will deliver the message and the adult choir will sing.
Bolwerk will lead the Good Friday Service of the Cross at 7 p.m. The theme is “A garden of death.”
An Easter sunrise service is planned for 6:30 a.m. and an Easter celebration service at 9:30 a.m. Schmitzer will preach. Music will be by the choir.
A breakfast of eggs, toast, fruit, sweet rolls, juice and coffee will be served after the sunrise service until 9 a.m. at the school.
The congregation of Unitarian Universalist Church will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Eastern Woods clubhouse, near Birchaven.
A potluck lunch will follow. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share, drink and table service. Afterward, there will be games, activities and prizes for all ages, including the second annual chick race.
Van Buren Presbyterian
The Rev. Susan Meier, general presbyter of the Maumee Valley Presbytery, will lead the Palm Sunday worship at 10:30 a.m. at Van Buren Presbyterian Church, 207 W. Market St., Van Buren.
The congregation will join with Faith Presbyterian Church, 700 E. Melrose Ave., Findlay, for the Maundy Thursday service.
Meier will also lead the Easter sunrise service held at 7 a.m. Breakfast will be served following worship. The service will be the only one offered on Easter.
Vanlue Christ UM
VANLUE — Vanlue Christ United Methodist Church will join with the congregation of East Mount Zion United Methodist Church for an Easter “sonrise” service at 7 a.m in the large shelter house at Vanlue Park.
Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. A worship service will be held at 9:15 a.m.
West Independence UM
WEST INDEPENDENCE — West Independence United Methodist Church will join in a community Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. at Vanlue Christ United Church.
On Good Friday, the West Independence sanctuary will be open for prayer and reflection from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A Good Friday service will begin at 7 p.m.
Easter will begin with a “sonrise” service at 8 a.m., followed by free breakfast and free family portraits in the church’s Family Life Center. An Easter celebration worship service will begin at 9:15 a.m., followed by Sunday school classes. Nursery care will be provided beginning at 8:45 a.m.
The church is at 22876 U.S. 224, seven miles east of Findlay.
Wharton First Church of God
WHARTON — Easter will begin at 7 a.m. with a sunrise service at the Wharton First Church of God. Breakfast will follow.
At 9:30 a.m., Deb Shrider will teach the combined adult Sunday school classes.
The cantata choir will present “I Know my Redeemer Lives” at the 10:30 a.m. service.
A Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church, 9009 Ohio 12 West.
On Easter, there will be a sunrise service at 8 a.m., followed by breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. A worship service will be offered at 10:30 a.m. The pastor is Brett Kelly.
