Altrusa International awards scholarships

Altrusa International of Findlay presented its 2014 literacy/service awards at its year-end banquet, held Monday at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church.
The award is given to graduates of a Hancock County high school who are entering their senior year of college study. This year’s recipients are Bobby Grandbois and Larissa Van Der Molen.
Grandbois, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grandbois, is a student at Miami University of Ohio. Van Der Molen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Van Der Molen and a student at Bowling Green State University. Both will receive a $1,000 scholarship to their school.
Officers were installed for 2014-2015. They are Ardith Green, president; Marie Baird, vice president; Judy Bell, secretary and Beth Wenner, treasurer. Members of the board of directors are Nancy Beers, Carlton Fruth, Fran Williams, Gwen Pahl and Deb Foster.
Outgoing president Sue Nichols was recognized, and new members Heather Beers and Cindy Lininger were welcomed.
Arcadia Garden Club
The Arcadia Garden Club accepted eight new members at its May 5 meeting, and is recruiting more.
Anyone interested in joining the club is asked to call Marcie Beamer, club president, at 419-423-8172.
The club works with the Arcadia Lions Club in the beautification of Arcadia Community Park and has donated money to purchase flowers for the park.
Arcadia Class of 1944
The Arcadia High School Class of 1944 celebrated the 70th anniversary of its graduation May 17 at Kathy’s Korner in Arcadia, with seven of the 22 class members attending.
Classmates attending were Ray and Glenna (Roller) Mellott, Helen (Rader) Haney, Wayne and Mary (Noel) Carpenter, Carol (Lieb) Baughman and Emerson Riter. Marion Shaull of Tonopah, Arizona, was unable to attend.
Officers elected for next year were Wayne Carpenter, president; Riter, vice president; and Baughman, secretary-treasurer.
The next reunion will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 12 at Kathy’s Korner.
