Celebration to mark right to vote anniversary

A “Women’s Suffrage Celebration” to mark the anniversary of women’s right to vote will take place on Aug. 18 at the Eastern Woods Clubhouse, 7113 Eastern Woods Parkway. The event is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church women and Findlay Optical.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Mayor Lydia Mihalik will speak at 7 p.m. and will present a proclamation for Women’s Right to Vote Day. Following the proclamation, the documentary “One Woman, One Vote” will be shown. Narrated by Susan Sarandon, the film was produced for the PBS series “American Experience” in 2006.
The 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote was ratified on Aug. 18, 1920, after a struggle that began in 1848 at Seneca Falls, New York.
The celebration is free and is open to the public.
