Storytelling for Literacy with Mike Anderson @ Glenwood Middle School Cafetorium

This workshop, originally created under the auspices of a 2-year Adult Literacy grant from the Illinois State Board of Education, is recognized nationally. It teaches the importance of storytelling and its impact on literacy: how it helps children learn and develop reading comprehension skills. It focuses on the whys of storytelling and the learning of the art.

Mike Anderson is a musician, author, elementary school teacher and wonderful story teller that has been nationally recognized for his workshops. Mike is a driving force in the Illinois folk scene and is one of the people we can thank for keeping traditional music and storytelling alive.

Meet SimMan @ The Children’s Museum of Findlay

Representatives from the University of Findlay will be giving an interactive demonstration of SimMan, a life-sized robot that can blink, breathe, and imitate other natural functions. Visitors can take his pulse, check his blood pressure, and more.   He’ll be a patient for the day!

Mazza Museum Art Camp @ Mazza Museum

If you would like to put your child on the waiting list for next year’s Art Camp, please email Terry Olthouse, education coordinator, at olthouse@findlay.edu.

The Mazza Museum hosts a week-long Summer Art Camp for elementary students in the Findlay area.

During the camp, children learn how to illustrate their own picture books using different media based on inspiration of the artwork in the Mazza Museum. The culmination is a family celebration with the students as the guests who participate in a book signing for their fans.
