Law Day Breakfast 7:30 am
Law Day Breakfast @ Findlay Country Club
May 1 @ 7:30 am – 9:00 am
Todd H. Bailey will deliver the keynote address at the 58th annual Law Day Breakfast sponsored by the Findlay/Hancock County Bar Association (FHCBA). Mr. Bailey will address this year’s theme in a presentation titled “June 12, 1215 – A Bad Day at the Office for King John.” Mr. Bailey is an attorney with the law firm of Frost, Brown Todd LLC, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a clinical faculty member at Miami University. Each May, the FHCBA and bar associations across the country observe national Law Day to commemorate the rule of law, the judiciary and its place in American society. The national theme of Law Day 2015 is “Magna Carta: Symbol of Freedom Under Law.” Mr. Bailey’s remarks will reflect on the Magna Carta’s significant impact on the formation of the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The Law Day Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, May 1 at the Findlay Country Club, 1500 Country Club Drive. All FHCBA members, judges, attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, and city and county employees are invited to attend. Hancock County Commissioners and Findlay City Council and other community groups and guests are also welcome. The cost is $12 per person for non-members of the FHCBA. Reservations should be made by April 23 by calling Debby Schade at (419) 421-2413. Checks should be made to the Findlay/Hancock County Bar Association and mailed to Ms. Schade in Room 832-M at 539 S. Main Street in Findlay. In conjunction with the Law Day Breakfast, FHCBA sponsors an educational outreach program. Members of the FHCBA participate in the program by giving presentations at area schools. In support of 2014 Law Day, FHCBA members provided 18 presentations, reaching approximately 950 students in a variety of grades at local schools. Presentations can be given to any class size and age group of students. The topic, chosen by the teacher and attorney, can be crafted to fit the needs of a particular grade. Area teachers interested in a classroom session may contact the FHCBA to be matched with a presenting attorney. In 1958 President Dwight Eisenhower established Law Day as “a day of national dedication to the principle of government under law.” Commemorated on May 1 annually since that date, Law Day programs are conducted throughout the country by bar associations, courts, schools, and civic groups.
