Scheduled for the first Thursday of each month visit the Hancock Historical Museum for a variety of informative and educational presentations on a wide range of topics relevant to Findlay and Hancock County Ohio. Bring your lunch and enjoy learning about our community from a diverse group of presenters. Brown bags are free for museum members and $5 for nonmembers. Lunches from Main St. Deli are available for purchase for an additional $5.50. Lunches include sandwich, chips, cookie and drink.

The Hancock Historical Museum will host the Ohio Local History Alliance Region 1 Meeting on Saturday, April 11th. OLHA works closely with the Ohio History Connection to encourage the preservation and presentation of Ohio’s heritage. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Invitation to Innovation”. The day-long conference is open to both members and nonmembers of OLHA. The itinerary includes a morning panel discussion on incorporating agricultural heritage into museum programming, and an afternoon presentation on planning for the preservation of oral histories. The day will also include the Alliance Region 1 Annual Business Meeting, catered lunch, and a special birthday cake presentation to acknowledge the life of little-known Hancock County scientist, William Wallace Campbell! Every year, Winebrenner hosts the Global Leadership Summit, a two day live telecast event. Experience the level of leadership development at this preview luncheon and hear an inspiring talk from Jack Groppel, PhD, Co-Founder of Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute. The museum kicks off Classic Movie Night at the museum with Casablanca. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. Starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Learn more about the historical significance of the film and stick around for a discussion about some of the highlights after the screening. Popcorn and light refreshments provided, this event is BYOB. Free for members, regular admission for non-members.

The mountain dulcimer is truly an American original, first made and played in the Appalachian region. But did you know there is a direct linkage of this instrument to the early German immigrants to Pennsylvania, including Mennonites? The dulcimer is actually a descendant of a German folk instrument called a scheitholt, a member of the zither family. Come and learn more about this little known connection. There will be slides of scheitholts made and owned by German Mennonites dating to the early 1800’s, as well as live music demonstrating several styles of dulcimer playing. Coffee and cookies will be provided.
