Paul Finkelman, president of Gratz College in Melrose, Pennsylvania, will discuss the origins of the Second Amendment at 4:15 p.m. April 5 in the Celebrezze Moot Courtroom at the Ohio Northern University College of Law. His talk, titled “Did James Madison really think you should own an AR-15, a bump stock or an assault rifle? The original meaning of the Second Amendment” will explain how the Second Amendment was not intended to protect an individual’s right to own a firearm, but was about a “well-regulated militia.” The talk is free and open to the public.

The Putnam County Master Gardeners will host the “Spring Into Gardening” garden fair from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 7 at the Educational Service Center in Ottawa. The first speaker of the day will be OSBA Beekeeper of the Year Jamie Walters. Also speaking will be a representative of the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership on the topic “Rain Gardens and Water Improvements” and OSU Extension Educator Amy Stone, who will speak on “Home Landscape Design.” A free gardeners’ market will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring a variety of local vendors. Cost is $30 which includes all presentations, door prizes, continental breakfast and a boxed lunch. Registration is required by Sunday by calling Ann Meyer at 419-523-6294.

“Achieving Your Leadership Potential” will be discussed from noon to 1 p.m. April 12 at Findlay Country Club by Julie Norris, division president for McLane Ohio. Registration and a buffet lunch will start at 11:30 a.m. The program is open to both men and women, though its focus is women who are entering or in leadership roles within Findlay and Hancock County. Norris will discuss how to be a role model for emerging female leaders, how to create your own definition of success as a leader, forming exceptional teams, and managing egos. Harold Brown, of Port Clinton, will discuss “Keep Your Airspeed Up: The Story of a Tuskegee Airman,” a book he wrote with Marsha Bordner chronicling his life and World War II service. As one of the United States’ first African-American pilots, Brown was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1944 and flew missions over Europe, which included the protection of bombers in the air. On his 30th mission, his plane was shot down over Nazi territory, and he became a prisoner of war. He went on to serve in the military for 23 years, becoming a lieutenant colonel. Brown also earned a Ph.D., retiring from Columbus State Community College as vice president of academic affairs. The presentation will begin with a brief film about Brown’s service, with Brown and Bordner on hand to sign copies of the book. Location: Winebrenner Theological Seminary’s TLB Auditorium. Those attending will learn about the healthy habits and thinking approaches of happy people, and will learn to recognize that desired emotions come from within. Registration is required by Monday by calling 419-423-8496. A presentation on making over your mood will be part of the “Afternoon Conversation” series at 1 p.m. April 30.
