2016 Photography Contest and Open House @ Brugeman Lodge at Riverbend Recreation Area

Amateur photographers are invited to participate in the Hancock Park District’s 20th annual 2016 Photography Contest & Open House. The photography contest and open house will be held Saturday, Feb. 6 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 7 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The contest is open to youth (up to age 13 or eighth grade) and adults (14 years of age and older). Photo submissions are due by noon on Jan. 15 at the Hancock Park District office. There is no contest entry fee. Photo entries can be dropped off at the HPD office located at 1424 E. Main Cross Street, Findlay 45840 during office hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or may be submitted by mail. Judging of photos will be based on content, technical quality, composition and originality. Mounting neatness will also be considered. Photographers are required to obtain written permission if they use people in their photos. A copy of the written permission is required at the time of entry submission. The public is welcome to vote for their favorite photos for the People’s Choice Awards during the open house. All votes are required to be completed by 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7. An awards ceremony for the contest winners will take place at 3 p.m. During the ceremony, ribbons and awards will be given to the winners for youth and adult first through third, Best in Show, People’s Choice Awards and honorable mention. There are eight contest entry categories: Hancock Park District scene, people in the park, general nature, Blanchard River Watershed Partnership, wild animals, domestic animals, action sports entries, and best of black and white. Additional details for each category are listed in the rules and guidelines so be sure to check them carefully before submitting photo contest entries.

UF Concert Bands: Love is in the Air @ Winebrenner Theological Seminary

The University of Findlay Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will join for this Valentine’s Day program. The bands will perform “The Beatles: Love,” music from the popular Cirque du Soliel show, music from “West Side Story,” highlights from “Phantom of the Opera” and more. The featured soloist will be Kelly Lewis, saxophonist and pianist. The bands will be under the direction of Jack Taylor, professor of music at The University of Findlay.

Just in time for the Oscars, the Toledo Symphony brings the films we love to life. From Bernstein’s “West Side Story” to Williams’ “Star Wars,” the power, beauty and sometimes the humor of these and other masterful scores will evoke wonderful memories and delight film lovers of all ages. Now in its 72nd Season, the Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is proud to be the musical heart of northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan reaching more than 260,000 individuals through performances and music education programs annually. Through Classics, Pops, Chamber, Mozart & More, and Family Series concerts, the TSO has built a strong reputation nationally for its artistic excellence and community and educational programming. Grammy-nominated conductor Sara Jobin has a passion for opera, American and new music. As Chief Conductor of the Center for Contemporary Opera in New York since 2011, she premiered and recorded Michael Dellaira’s The Secret Agent in New York, followed by performances in Hungary and France. A Leonard Bernstein Music Scholar, Jobin studied conducting with Charles Bruck at the Pierre Monteux School in Maine. In 2004, she had made history as the first woman to conduct mainstage subscription performances at the San Francisco Opera.
