Nissin Brake Ohio is hosting “Comedy Night: Laugh United” on Friday, April 17 with proceeds going to United Way of Hancock County. The event will take place at Alexandria’s, 132 E. Crawford St. Two shows will be held at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Doors will open 45 minutes before each show. Presale tickets are available at Coffee Amici, 328 S. Main St., and United Way of Hancock County, 245 Stanford Parkway. Tickets will be sold at the door if available. Only cash will be accepted at the door. For an additional $20, a table of 10 can be reserved by contacting Chris May at 419-420-3930. There will also be a basket raffle, 50/50 raffle, cash bar and dining available. “Comedy Night: Laugh United” will feature Demetrius Nicodemus of 92.5 KISS FM’s Morning Rush, and Russell Rabb with Detroit Sports Media. Nicodemus was a bartender for Connextions Comedy Club where he began performing stand-up comedy. The Toledo native has performed for more than 15 years. He has toured Ohio and Michigan doing various comedy tours including “Small Town Comedy Tour.” Rabb is a highly-requested audience favorite in comedy clubs across the United States. The Ypsilanti, Michigan, native is a former U.S. Marine, actor, director and also provides workshops giving advice on how to write jokes.

Canoeists will begin the trip by paddling through Blanchard River Nature Preserve and later along the border of parks, conservation areas, and Riverbend Recreation Area and through an especially scenic section west of the park. It is an enjoyable, yet long day trip at 25 miles. Canoeists should plan on portaging two dams near the latter part of the trip — one near the Findlay reservoir and one after the covered bridge on Township 241 near Riverbend Recreation Area. Without stops and with two strong paddlers, this trip should take approximately 8½ hours. If the trip is canceled due to extreme inclement weather, it will be rescheduled for Sunday, April 19. Meet at 7 a.m. at Zonta Landing parking area at Riverside Park, located on McManness Avenue, north of East Main Cross Street between the swimming pool and river. The shuttle will be at Zonta Landing parking area at Riverside Park at 7 a.m. Canoeists will be transported to Blanchard River Nature Preserve via the HPD Shuttle Service. Adults and youth age 15 to 17 with a signed assumption of risk/liability release/waiver of all claims form and/or parental consent form. Youth under the age of 15 are welcome to participate if accompanied by an adult age 18 or older. Participants must have the ability to swim. Enrollment maximum: 12 people total with a maximum of two participants per canoe. Register by Friday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m. Supplies: Wear tennis shoes that can get wet. Bring lunch, snacks, and water or Gatorade in a small cooler (alcohol is not permitted in HPD canoes). Dress and plan accordingly for the weather. Canoes, life vests, paddles, and shuttle service will be provided.

Spring canoe trip @ Blanchard Landing

Canoeists will begin the trip by paddling through downtown Findlay and the obstacle-ridden section of the Blanchard River. Beyond the urban section lies a scenic and pleasant rural section where wildlife sightings are commonplace. It is an enjoyable, yet physically challenging trip at 12.6 miles with up to six potential portages around two dams and four rock fields, including a long portage at the waterfall just after starting the trip. Without stops and with two strong paddlers, this trip should take approximately 4½ hours. If the trip is canceled due to extreme inclement weather, it will be rescheduled for Sunday, April 26. Meet at 9 a.m. at Blanchard Landing, located on Ohio 235, south of U.S. 224 West. The shuttle will be at Blanchard Landing at 9 a.m. Canoeists will be transported to Zonta Landing at Riverside Park via the HPD Shuttle Service. Who: Adults and youth age 15 to 17 with a signed assumption of risk/liability release/waiver of all claims form and/or parental consent form. Youth under the age of 15 are welcome to participate if accompanied by an adult age 18 or older. Participants must have the ability to swim. Audience members may bring their own beverages. Concessions will be available. Headlining the show will be Chili Challis, a former writer for the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” who has headlined comedy clubs, casinos, colleges and corporate shows for nearly 30 years. He has also been on nationally syndicated “Bob and Tom” radio show. The feature comedian will be Thaddeus Challis. A former musician who made the transition to comedy, he was a finalist for the Bob and Tom-Busch Light national comedy competition. The master of ceremonies for the evening will be local comedian Eddie Michaels. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Vanlue Athletic Boosters and the student athletes at Vanlue High School.
