If you would like to put your child on the waiting list for next year’s Art Camp, please email Terry Olthouse, education coordinator, at olthouse@findlay.edu. The Mazza Museum hosts a week-long Summer Art Camp for elementary students in the Findlay area. During the camp, children learn how to illustrate their own picture books using different media based on inspiration of the artwork in the Mazza Museum. The culmination is a family celebration with the students as the guests who participate in a book signing for their fans.

The camp is divided into times for each age group as follows: ages 3-6 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and ages 7-10 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The camp will focus on teaching basic yoga poses in a fun environment using music, games, guided imagery, crafts and stories. Children will be active but also learn relaxation and breathing techniques to calm themselves down. Classes are taught by Barb Matheny.

The Compassionate Friends of Hancock County will hold a balloon release at 7 p.m. Thursday at Riverbend Park, 16618 Township Road 208, shelter house 7, near the dog park. Balloons will be provided. The event is open to anyone who has lost a child, grandchild or sibling. Families are welcome.

The Findlay Pride Picnic will be held at noon Saturday in the former dance hall at Riverside Park. Hot dogs, bratwurst and hamburgers will be provided; those attending are asked to bring a dish to share. The family picnic is sponsored by Spectrum of Findlay, an LGBT group that supports local charities and works toward better relations between the community and the LGBT population.

Several churches are joining to host the Back2School Bash Aug. 15. The event, a celebration intended to help families prepare for the start of school, will be held at two locations: at Bernard Park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and at the band shelter at Riverside Park from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Pastor Alfred DeLacruz Jr., of Harvest Time International Ministries, said the Bernard Park celebration will offer a few more activities for children and their parents than at Riverside Park. Free food and school supplies will be available at both locations. At Bernard Park, haircuts will be available for $2 each. There will be face painting, games, crafts and prizes for children and a resource fair for families. Holly Frische, the Findlay City Council representative for the area, will speak. The Winebrenner Theological Seminary praise and worship team will provide music. Churches involved in the Bernard Park celebration include Harvest Time International Ministries, Winebrenner Theological Seminary, College First Church of God, Catalyst Church and Movement Church. At Riverside Park, the band Live 4:1 will play. There will also be a magician. The Riverside Park celebration is being organized by Harvest Time International Ministries, First United Brethren Church and Crosspoint Church.

Night Jazz and AMVETS Post 21 will present a benefit dance for Flag City Honor Flight at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Findlay Senior Center, 339 E. Melrose Ave. Admission to the event is free, but donations will be accepted. The band will perform hits from many musical eras, focusing on swing music of the 1930s and 1940s. Flag City Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization that has transported nearly 500 veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials built in their honor. The tours are conducted with no expense to the veterans. Night Jazz has been performing music made famous by the likes of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Frank Sinatra since its formation in 1995. The band has appeared at numerous public and private events around the area including annual appearances at the Riverside Summer Concert Series.
