Night of Jazz @ Donnell Middle School cafetorium
May 26 @ 7:30 pm
The Night of Jazz concert will take place on Tuesday, May 26 in the Cafetorium at Donnell Middle School. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will feature the Donnell JAZZ Middle School Jazz Band, the FHS Jazz Ensemble and Night Jazz, a local big band style jazz group. The event is free and open to the public. Donnell JAZZ will perform: “Get Serious,” “So You’re Really Goin Are You?” and “Little Frog.” The FHS Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Michael Springer, is an ensemble that exposes students to a wide variety of musical styles related to the genre of jazz and provides a jazz music experience for audience members as well. It has traditionally been an activity that is offered during the second semester of the school year and rehearses once a week for about an hour. In addition to appearances locally, including FHS Band Concerts, the ensemble has participated in the GM Jazz challenge at the Fraze Pavillion in Dayton and has performed at the Ritz Theatre in Tiffin for the Ohio Jazz Summit. The FHS Jazz Ensemble will play a variety of jazz related selections representing the following styles: rock, swing, swing ballad, rock ballad and reggae. Night Jazz was organized in 1995 by Gary Lannes. The group consists of 20 members, featuring the solo styles of Judy Lowell and Jim Scothorn. Night Jazz is directed by Scothorn. The band preforms at various community events and locations such as the University of Findlay Jazz Festival, The Findlay Summer Concert Series, The Heritage, Birchaven Village, local dinner parties, wedding receptions, anniversaries and dances.
