Johnny Appleseed Park District Weed Pulling Events
Apr 23 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Community members are invited to help Johnny Appleseed Park District save native flowers from garlic mustard, an invasive weed from Europe.

Pulling events are held from 9 a.m. to noon every Monday, Wednesday and Friday through April and May beginning at Kendrick Woods, then moving on to Hermon Woods, Teddy Bear, Lippincott Bird Sanctuary and Heritage Park.

Anyone who would like to help should contact Anne Smedley at 419-221-1232 or ASmedley@jampd.com. Volunteers with sturdy woven plastic bags to hold the pulled mustard are asked to bring them along or donate them at the park office.

Earth Day Program @ Forest-Jackson Public Library

An Earth Day program, hosted by Forest-Jackson Public Library, will include a presentation by Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District and Gottfried Nature Preserve personnel at 6:30 p.m. April 23. Discussion will include the water cycle, watersheds and protecting the water supply. The free, family program will include hands-on activities.

Master Gardener Volunteer Training Course @ OSU-Lima

The Allen County and Hardin County OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers will partner to host a Master Gardener Volunteer training course for new Master Gardener Volunteers this spring.

The Ohio State University Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested Ohio residents who then volunteer their time assisting with educational programs and activities for Ohio residents through their local Ohio State University Extension county office.

Volunteers are not required to have gardening skills or knowledge; but a passion for learning about gardening and sharing this knowledge with others is a must.

Classes will be held on the OSU Lima Campus beginning with orientation on Tuesday, March 6 and classes being held each Tuesday and Thursday from 6-9 p.m. beginning March 13 and continuing through April 26.

American Woodcock @ Riverbend Recreation Area, Shelter 6
Apr 27 @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

A program about the American woodcock, hosted by the Hancock Park District, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, and at the same time April 20 or 27 at Shelter 6 in Riverbend Recreation Area.

There will be root beer floats for participants.

The program is recommended for children at least 8 years old. Children 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

The program is free, but registration is required by 4 p.m. today, online at www.HancockParks.com under the “Programs & Activities” tab, or by calling the park district office, 419-425-7275.

The program will be held with a minimum of four and a maximum of 20 participants.
