Five Sweet Sensations for Your Sweetheart

Comment: Off

The minute the calendar rolls over to February, I begin thinking about all things Valentine’s; candy hearts, pink sprinkles, red velvet, and lacy doilies. It seems that everywhere I look there are shades of pink and red. One of my favorite sights this time of the year is seeing men of all ages scurrying out of florist shops and grocery stores with beautiful bouquets in tow. It’s a delightful celebration and a wonderful reminder to shower attention on those we love.

Oh, and February always makes me think of delicious desserts; there has to be a sweet treat for our Valentine’s Day celebration. Each year it’s something a little different, but always fun, unique and somewhat decadent. Last Valentine’s it was these French Meringues w/ Strawberry Ganache Filling. They were delicious and ended up going viral on Pinterest after I posted them on my blog.

I’m still thinking about what I’ll make this year for the big V-day. I have a bunch of fun ideas rolling around in my head, but can’t quite decide. I might do a couple of them. If you’re curious, come on back for a visit to The Café this next week and check things out. In the meantime, I thought I’d share a few other fun treats we’ve celebrated with in the past. Enjoy!

Chocolate Obsession Cake – I was teaching a cooking class one year right around Valentine’s Day. I wanted a fabulous, yet simple dessert with a lot of WOW factor. I dressed up an old standby that I’d been making for a zillion years with a brand new presentation and gave it a fancy-dancy name. It’s so delicious that no one believes it the easiest cake ever! (….and you won’t believe its real name.)

Vanilla Bean Cupcakes w/ Fresh Strawberry Icing – These vanilla bean-studded cupcakes are as easy as any cake mix, but infinitely better. The icing is a burst of wonderful strawberry flavor with both strawberry jam and fresh strawberries inside. So pretty too!

Ombre Butter Mints – Valentine’s Day is a great time to give small gifts that say “I love you,” “I care,” “Thank you,” “You’re special,” etc. And everyone seems to love butter mints, especially when they look like this!

I Want to Marry You Cookies – Imagine being able to say that your significant other proposed to you on Valentine’s Day! These cookies supposedly have the magical power to elicit such ardent requests. I can’t promise this is true, but I can promise that they’re magically delicious!
