5 Valentine School Lunch Ideas

I’m one of those people who loves everything about Valentine’s Day. (You may be saying “blech” right now, but I do.) Well, actually, I’m not particularly fond of how commercial the holiday has become. But I do love all the hugs, kisses, homemade cards and, of course, sweet treats! While you can easily buy your Valentine a bag of sweet tarts with cute sayings printed on them, why not get fresh ingredients and then make something special with your kids instead? The entire Valentine’s week in our house is full of heart-shaped foods and pretty surprises. I even make sure to send some extra-special lunches to school with the kids.

The best thing to give your kids for school lunch on Valentine’s Day (or every day of the Valentine week!) is whatever food they love most. Chloe loves olive tapenade, so she will definitely be getting some tapenade and cream cheese rolls. Kenya, on the other hand, goes bonkers for an Egg Pesto Melt, so that will be in his lunchbox on Valentine’s Day. I also like to be indulgent on this holiday, so I’ll throw in a sweet treat or two! Check out the recipes below for some Valentine school lunch inspiration. Let me know what special treat you’ll be giving your kids this year!

1. Raspberry Fudge Brownies – Chocolate is the flavor of the season, and what’s more indulgent and chocolatey than fudge? Swirl in some raspberry to add that beautiful red color and you’ve got something truly Valentine’s worthy!

2. Chocolate Heart Sandwich Cookies – Sandwiches are typical school lunch fare. Why not give the kids a really exciting sandwich that’s made of cookies and chocolate? I told you, I love to indulge during this holiday.

3. Heart Crispy Treats – Rice Krispie Treats take me way back to childhood and my grandmother’s kitchen. I’ve improved on the original recipe to make it a bit more healthy and I’ve also added a red surprise to gussie them up for Valentine’s Day!

4. Raspberry Tea Sandwiches – Maybe your kids aren’t interested in Chloe’s tapenade or Kenya’s egg pesto melt, but I bet they would flip for these adorable little tea sandwiches.

5. Very Berry Spinach Salad – This can easily make a healthy school lunch for the kids, a filling work lunch for yourself, or a hearty dinner salad for the entire family to share. It’s packed with nutrition and gets a gorgeous pop of color from all the berries!
