Arts workshops offered for teachers

The Arts Partnership of Greater Hancock County, in conjunction with the Findlay City and Hancock County schools and the University of Findlay, will present two arts integration workshops in February and March.
The professional development workshops are free to area educators and pre-service educators and provide a hands-on approach to integrating the arts into the curriculum.
Tami Wallace from Millstream Career Center will present “Incorporating the Digital Arts into Your Teaching” from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Millstream Career Center.
The workshop will present strategies to incorporate digital arts into the classroom that are designed to increase student engagement and creativity and personalize student learning. Educators will receive tips for planning and evaluating projects and many mobile tools for digital storytelling and photo and video editing.
The resources and projects shared will be scalable for any kindergarten through 12th grade setting and will be applicable to all content areas.
Wallace has been an educational technology specialist for over 20 years. She is the career tech coordinator and adult education supervisor at Millstream Career Center and teaches educational technology classes at Owens Community College.
Workshop participants can earn contact hours. Space is limited so pre-registration is encouraged by Feb. 11 by contacting Peggy Grandbois, executive director of the Arts Partnership, at 419-422-3412, ext. 3, or at
The final workshop for the 2013-14 school year is “Helping Students Develop and Tell Their Stories,” presented from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 4 at the Mazza Museum by Judy Thibault Klevins.
Educators will learn ways to help students understand story structure by developing personal narratives and use storytelling techniques to tell stories more vividly. Participants will also explore a process for helping students choose appropriate topics, visualize the story and use simple sketching and writing to organize and capture stories.
