Women’s giving circle awards two grants

Handbags That Help, a women’s giving circle, awarded $36,000 in grants to two local agencies during its annual celebration meeting held recently.
Members voted at their March meeting and selected the Hancock County Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services and the Arts Partnership of Hancock County to receive grant funds.
The ADAMHS board received a grant of $30,000 to become a Trauma Informed Learning Community.
The Arts Partnership received $6,000 to provide scholarships for its summer art camp program.
In seven years, Handbags That Help has granted $298,100 to support 17 local nonprofit organizations.
The giving circle is open to all area women. Each year, every dollar generated by memberships is passed directly on to the community through grants voted on by the members. A $500 annual donation gives each member a single vote as to how the pooled funds will be awarded that year; group memberships of two to five women are also available.
This year, 152 local women were members totaling 79 memberships.
The giving circle is supported by the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation. The group is currently accepting memberships for 2014-2015.
