Businesses collecting food in advance of July 18 block party

Businesses located in the Carriage House Plaza, 1016 Tiffin Ave., will host the “Carriage House Block Party” from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 18.
The event will include displays by several United Way partner agencies including: the American Red Cross, Hope House for the Homeless, Camp Fire Northwest Ohio, Children’s Mentoring Connection, Challenged Champions, Open Arms Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services, Century Health, YMCA, Cancer Patient Services, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Hancock Saves and West Ohio Food Bank. United Way will also have information on 211 and the Volunteer Hancock County website.
Raffle prizes will be donated by businesses in the plaza. There will also be free hot dogs and bottled water from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Businesses participating include Vapor Emporia, Wolfies Roasted Nuts, the Tonsorium, Papillon Boutique, Carriage House Gifts, Jaqua’s Monogramming and Design, Mar-Ott Book Nook, National Cash Advance, Showplace Rent-to-Own, Tidy Rides and the Fort Findlay Coffee and Doughnut Shoppe. Tidy Rides will offer car washes in exchange for donations for the Fire Relief Foundation, an organization that assists families after a house fire.
There will also be a food drive held from now until the end of the event. Nonperishable items can be dropped off at any of the participating businesses. Food will be collected by West Ohio Food Bank for processing and inventory then returned to Hancock County food pantries. Local pantries are in great need of proteins such as peanut butter, canned meats, and tuna.
Raffle tickets will be sold for $10 to be entered to win a new 2013 Ford Focus Titanium donated by Cooper Tires. The vehicle is the first to come off of the assembly line with Cooper Tires as original equipment. The drawing for the car will be held Sept. 5.
