Vanlue Festival begins with parade on Friday

VANLUE — A parade, chicken barbecue, cornhole and crowning of a king and queen will be some of the highlights of the annual Vanlue Festival, set for Friday and Saturday at the Vanlue Community Park.
Activities begin with a parade at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Local military and veterans will serve as grand marshals. The crowning of the festival king, queen, prince and princess will follow at the tennis court. The parade line up will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Vanlue School. Entertainment, kids’ activities, games, rides, food, bingo and a ticket wheel will also be available. Inflatable rides open at 7 p.m. Pony rides will only be at the festival Friday. The inflatables and train ride can be enjoyed all night starting at 7 p.m. with the purchase of a $5 wristband.
The beer garden opens at 7 p.m. both nights. A beer pong contest begins at 8 p.m. Friday. Musical entertainment will be provided by Mr. Frumble’s Pickle Car Band.
Events Saturday will include contests in mud volleyball, cornhole and kiddie Big Wheel races.
A 5K run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Registration for the run begins at 7:45 a.m. The cost is $20 with a T-shirt, if available, or $15 without a shirt. For information, contact Terri Ward at P.O. Box 103, Vanlue, 45890, or call 419-788-2043.
Mud volleyball begins at 9 a.m. For information, contact Kathy Wisner at 419-957-9197. The beer garden opens at 1 p.m. for spectators.
The Vanlue Fire Department will serve a chicken barbecue at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the main park building. For ticket information, call Athena Yeater at 419-387-7665. Some dinners will be available at the door. One Voice will perform.
The annual Kiddie Big Wheel race is scheduled for 6 p.m. Trophies are given to the winners of the age categories.
Karaoke is at 7 p.m., and the cornhole tournament begins at 8 p.m.
A three-on-three basketball tournament begins at 6 p.m. Saturday. For information, call 419-889-3849. Mr. Frumble’s Pickle Car Band returns at 8 p.m.
