Deshler event to honor veterans

DESHLER — American Legion Post 316 in Deshler will host the a benefit for RAW (Returning American Warriors) on Aug. 23.
RAW is a group of private citizens and armed forces veterans. The 12-person committee, which includes 10 veterans, oversees the organization’s funds.
The group’s mission is to help Retuning American Warriors obtain resources that are available to help them and their families upon return from service.
The Aug. 23 event will include a motorcycle run at 12:30 p.m. A color guard, “Taps,” 21-gun salute and the singing of the national anthem will kick off the event. A police escort will lead the bikes through Deshler, where a large American flag will be honored and displayed.
There will also be activities for the community, including a memorial of local heroes, a funny car display, vendors, a dunk tank and food vendors. Outlaw barbecue will be available at 5 p.m. and take out will be available. Mike DuBose will be begin playing at 3 p.m. Featured artist Eli Doerhmann will take the stage at 7 p.m.
Returning veterans in need of assistance are asked to submit a letter, email or telephone call of their needs to one of the RAW committee members.
