Altrusa of Findlay members challenged themselves to handcraft at least 100 hats to donate to Coats for Christmas this year. One member, Susan Nichols, loomed about 150 hats herself, leading the club to donate about 200 hats, along with about 50 pairs of purchased gloves and a few more store-bought hats, to the cause. The club has a long history of volunteering with Coats for Christmas, with club members regularly assisting clients during the days of distribution. This year’s free coat distribution will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 16 and from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 17 at Glenwood Middle School. It is open to any Hancock County resident, regardless of income, and organizers expect about 2,000 coats will be available to choose from. The program, presented by Hancock Leadership Alumni Association, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Altrusa of Findlay is celebrating its 88th anniversary, while Altrusa International is marking its 100th year.
