Chill Zone @ Bluffton Public Library

The Bluffton Public Library has announced “Chill Zone” begins Aug. 28 with a special DIY Bow Tie event.

The program is held every Tuesday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and is open to anyone in sixth through 12th grade. Activities include gaming, socializing, themed events, crafts and snacks.

Beth Genson Art Exhibit Reception @ Fisher/Wall Art Gallery, Marathon Center for the Performing Arts

Beth Genson’s works in the ancient art of encaustic use a hot paint mixture of beeswax, damar resin and oil pigments. Genson finds the encaustic medium well suited for her exploration of water as a subject matter, with rivers and ponds as the focal point of many of her paintings. The public is invited to an artist’s reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Crafting Through the Seasons

The Findlay Leo Councilettes will host a craft retreat titled “Crafting Through the Seasons” on Sept. 21-22.

The $25 cost includes a weekend of knitting, quilting, crocheting, scrapbooking, reading and more. Door prizes, raffles and table favors, along with lunch, are included.

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio Fall Fest @ Mennonite Memorial Home

The Service Group of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO) is seeking donations of items, services or “experiences” for a silent auction during Fall Fest, being held Sept. 22.

Proceeds will support activities and improvement projects, benefiting more than 350 MHCO elders. All donations are tax deductible.

Suggested donations include framed artwork, jewelry and certificates for a business service. To donate an item, email JStrahm@mhcoliving.org or call 419-358-1015, ext. 248.

The MHCO Service Group will host a bake sale Sept. 21-22 and will staff the food tent at Mennonite Memorial Home during Fall Fest.

Central Church of Christ Movie Night @ Central Church of Christ

Central Church of Christ, 307 E. Hardin St., will host a free movie night at 6 p.m. Sept. 22. The film “I Can Only Imagine,” based on the incredible true-life story that inspired the beloved, chart-topping song, will be shown. Popcorn and water will be provided.

Mornings with Mommy allows families to enjoy activities with your infant through kindergarten-age children while meeting other moms, dads, grandparents and nannies.

The educational playdates will begin Sept. 17 and continue on the first and third Mondays and Tuesdays of each month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 N. Main St., Jenera. Each session follows a different theme but includes a devotion, language and literacy activities, crafts, a snack and sensory activities.

The cost is $5 per family, per session, payable by cash or check. Registration is required at tlcjenera.org or by calling 419-326-4685.

UF Homecoming @ University of Findlay
Oct 5 – Oct 7 all-day

The University of Findlay’s 2018 Homecoming and Family Weekend will take place Oct. 5-7. With the theme “Where Your Story Began,” the celebration will also focus on Shafer Library’s 50th anniversary.

Events include Shafer Library’s 50th Anniversary Celebration from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5. Tours will show what’s new at the library.

Fireworks will be set off at the Davis Street building parking lot at 9:15 p.m. Friday.

Registration for the 5K run/walk starts at 7:15 a.m. Saturday at the Alumni Memorial Union. The race starts at 8 a.m. Proceeds will support the UF chapter of the Academy of Student Pharmacists.

At 3 p.m., the Oilers will play Hillsdale College at Donnell Stadium.

The Homecoming and Family Weekend Worship Service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Winebrenner Theological Seminary.

Funday Sunday, held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at UF’s Mazza Museum, will feature the theme “Where Your Story Begins.”

Family activities will include storytelling, art stations, music, refreshments and special guests. Kids will be immersed in a mini college visit that will allow them to experience the different departments on campus and what they have to offer.

More than 16 stations will be available for young participants, and the university’s planetarium will be open.
