Carey Freewill Baptist Church will host its Autumn Dinner and Bake Sale from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the church, two miles north of Carey on U.S. 23 N. The meal consists of a half-barbecue chicken or two pork chops with au gratin potatoes, green beans, dinner roll, dessert and drink. Cost is $8.50, and orders must be placed by Sept. 14. With a Song in My Heart: A Celebration of The Findlay Light Opera @ Marathon Center for the Performing Arts

The Findlay Light Opera Company Series presented by Fifth Third Bank at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts will kick off the first of four cabarets Friday, Sept. 21, with “A Song in My Heart: A Celebration of the Findlay Light Opera Company.”

The one-night only event begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Marathon Center’s Roy and Marcia Armes Hall, 200 W. Main Cross St.

Tickets cost $15 to $25 and can be purchased at the Marathon Center box office from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays or online at www.marathoncenterarts.org

The company has begun a partnership with the Marathon Center, “returning home” to what was formerly known as Central Auditorium after a hiatus of a few years.

The company was founded in 1988 by a group of community members dedicated to expanding the performing arts in Findlay. This cabaret will feature some of the company’s most beloved songs from its 30-year musical theater history, with a cast of singers ranging in age from 8 to 89 as a representative showcase of community talent.

The production’s creative staff includes director Kathy Newell; Sharon Vaas and Zach Thomas are accompanists; and Devon King is stage manager.

Jones Mansion Autumn Garden Luncheon @ The Jones Mansion

The Jones Mansion will host a luncheon with locally harvested food straight from the garden. Guests can sample delicacies like dilly beans, sorrel soup, pickled beets, refrigerator pickles, zucchini sweets and more. Fresh lemonade and switchel will also be served. The program includes a short history of canning, complete with additional samples. Tickets are limited, with proceeds going to the mansion’s upkeep and restoration.

Van Buren United Methodist Church Pre-Game Tailgate @ Van Buren United Methodist Church

Van Buren United Methodist Church will host a pregame tailgate party before home football games, from 5-7 p.m. This replaces the “5th Quarter” hosted by the church in the past. Families are invited to come for free food and games, including hot dogs, walking tacos and desserts. Home games are scheduled for Sept. 14 and 28 and Oct. 26. The church is located within walking distance of the football field and is “Home of the 9 Square.”

The featured performers and venue are a surprise for ticketholders, with the location announced just 24 hours prior to the show and the performers announced at the show. Each event features four performers ranging from spoken word, comedy, singer/songwriter and bands.

Tickets are tiered, ranging from $10-15 depending on sales.
