The Swiss Homestead at 8350 Bixel Road, Bluffton, will be open to the public from 1-5 p.m. every Saturday through August.
Areas open to visitors will include the restored 1843 house; reconstructed summer kitchen; restored workshop; 1850s kitchen garden; an outdoor bake oven; and extensive grounds. Docents will be available to interpret the homestead’s history each weekend.
The 1854 barn will be open the last Saturday of each month only. Special activities will take place the second Saturday of each month: June 9 — making butter in the summer kitchen; July 14 — children’s games; Aug. 11 — working with tools in the workshop.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 16 and younger and members of the Swiss Community Historical Society.
