Several candidates are expected to speak this week at the First Friday lunch hosted by the Hancock County Republican Party. Reservations are due by noon today. Call 419-422-5946 and leave a message. Cost is $10 for lunch. There is no charge to hear the speakers. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon. The event will be held at The Dock, behind St. Marks United Methodist Church, 800 S. Main St. Candidates expected to speak are state Sen. Rob McColley; Jon Cross, candidate for the 83rd District seat in the Ohio House; and uncontested Hancock County candidates: Tim Bechtol for county commissioner, Charity Rauschenberg for county auditor, and Jonathan Starn for judge of Hancock County Common Pleas Court.

Voting rights expert Mike Brickner will be speaking Monday at the University of Findlay in celebration of Constitution Day. He will give a free, public talk, titled, “Your Vote, Your Voice,” at 7 p.m. in Winebrenner Theological Seminary, Room 254. Brickner will discuss U.S. Supreme Court cases involving voter purges, partisan gerrymandering, how you can protect your vote, and how to encourage others to cast ballots. He serves as the Ohio director of All Voting is Local. He was previously the senior policy director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, where he led the organization’s policy, advocacy and legislative work.
