“Nice Dreams,” an art exhibition by fine artist Brandon Briggs, will take place at the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion’s Dudley and Mary Marks Lea Gallery from Monday through Sept. 14. A reception will be held Thursday, Sept. 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Briggs is a full-time instructor in drawing and painting at Bowling Green State University. His current work is focused on all things quiet. The Lea Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.

Area artists are being sought to create sidewalk art on Main Street in Findlay on Sept. 15. Chalk-A-Walk, sponsored by the Findlay Art League, is intended to be a fun event where teams of artists decorate the sidewalks downtown. Completed drawings will be judged and a $100 cash prize will be awarded in each of the following categories, including high school, college, business, friends and family, church and youth groups. Interested artists must assemble teams of three to five people and register at the Art League, 117 W. Crawford St., or online at The cost is $10 per person. Registration and payment are required by Aug. 24. Teams may supply their own chalk or purchase chalk from the Art League. Participants must bring their own wipes, towels, water and other beverages, and be prepared to provide their own lunch. Several downtown restaurants will be offering Chalk-A-Walk specials. Participants should arrive at the Art League at 9 a.m., when they will be assigned a spot to draw. They may work until the contest ends at 6 p.m., then return to the Art League at 7, when awards will be announced. Professional chalk artist Jodi Hubbard will be giving classes Sept. 1. She will discuss introductory sidewalk chalk drawing from 10 a.m. to noon. A class on advanced drawing for ages 16 and older will be held from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. Beth Genson’s works in the ancient art of encaustic use a hot paint mixture of beeswax, damar resin and oil pigments. Genson finds the encaustic medium well suited for her exploration of water as a subject matter, with rivers and ponds as the focal point of many of her paintings. The public is invited to an artist’s reception from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19. Hours: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

The Findlay Leo Councilettes will host a craft retreat titled “Crafting Through the Seasons” on Sept. 21-22. The $25 cost includes a weekend of knitting, quilting, crocheting, scrapbooking, reading and more. Door prizes, raffles and table favors, along with lunch, are included.
